Understanding Timeshare Laws and Cancellations

Each State in the United States has its own laws regarding timeshare. Whether it is to protect timeshare developers or the actual owners is still very much a grey area. An excellent resource is the United States Timeshare Regulation Matrix available at www.arda.org.This matrix makes available basic information to timeshare statues as existing in each State.
Of particular interest is the asterisk in the end that denotes other laws not limited to condominium, seller or travel or securities may apply. It is prudent to hire the services of competent legal adviser in the matter of timeshare be it closure or timeshare resort cancellation. There is a particular mention of States with no specific timeshare laws, rules and policies in the States of Vermont (Bernie Sanders is the Senator from Vermont), Alaska, Kansas and Wyoming.

Why it is important to consult an attorney?

There are too many reports of frauds in the timeshare world and different laws applicable. Only a trained legal mind who understands the shenanigans of the scammers can unravel the twisted labyrinth maze of laws. A simple cancellation policy of a timeshare is a nightmare (pun unintended). The legal jargon is a cornucopia of legalese that is enough to put you off (again pun unintended). On top of that, the proliferation of pseudo-legal entities on the internet is enough for you to wonder why the hell did you ever get into the mess of timeshares. (pardon the blasphemy - it cannot be helped).  As timeshare scammers rule the roost so too do so-called legal companies professing expertise in the matter of timeshare matters. The number of web portals advertising timeshare transfers is on the rise and it really takes a lot of time and effort in unraveling the truth.
